Coronavirus has changed the world in major ways. Even if you or your loved ones haven’t contracted the virus, your life has likely been turned upside down by its spread. Does it feel unfamiliar and unsettling for you too?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I realized I am grieving. I have lost a deeper connection to family and friends. I miss the countless little daily interactions with a co-worker or a face to face exchange with a client. My sense of control has been threatened.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I don’t know what will happen nor how long I have to do this for. I can’t plan a vacation or go to a gathering or event like I used to. Simple things I took for granted are postponed until further notice. Life, overall…feels put on hold.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Changing my thought patterns has been helpful. The reality is that the world is constantly changing. Every time I get good and comfortable, there it goes changing again. So, I can get in front of it, respond to it, or be drug under. I choose to get in front of it and respond in healthy ways.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How do you get in front of it?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Recognize your grief is personal and the way you handle it is unique to you. It’s impossible to perfectly navigate waters you’ve never been through. Give yourself and others compassion as you experience these emotions.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It can be helpful to seek meaning in the chaos by finding ways to connect and contribute. Determining what I can and can’t control has made a big difference.
