She only gave away her power by thinking she didn’t have any. In order for her to achieve what she wanted in life, she had to take complete responsibility for her actions. She realized that when she stopped blaming others for her problems, people no longer had power over her life. She owned up to her thoughts, actions and feelings. At any given time, she had the choice of how to respond. She learned that taking responsibility earned her respect; most importantly, self-respect.
