Don’t wait for me. I’m not turning around from the direction I’m heading.
Why is it so hard to look back at the past?
❤️🩹 It’s incredibly painful.
❤️🩹 It’s mentally and emotionally exhausting.
❤️🩹 It initially causes more stress and anxiety.
❤️🩹 It’s easier to avoid and bury what’s happened.
❤️🩹 The memories cause too much agony.
❤️🩹 We can’t change the past.
All true.
Discussing negative events from your past is not easy, particularly if the events were traumatic and if you’ve tried to avoid thinking about and talking about them for a long time. So, it makes sense that you would try to continue to avoid it.
And while it’s difficult to look back at the past, therapy can often connect the dots that led to the issue you’re struggling with today. It also helps you change the way you respond to old hurts and avoid repeating patterns and mistakes. Today and in the future.
