I snapped this picture a few years back while on a rural excursion through a desolate part of West Texas. Somewhere north of a town called Marfa, miles from anywhere you could call civilization, I stumbled on this Prada store on an empty two lane road.
Naturally curious, I pulled out my phone and googled “Marfa Prada Museum” to learn more. It turns out an artist had built it years earlier as a concept piece. The contrast was astonishing. All I could see for miles was cows, a barn, train tracks and a Prada store.
As with all art of this scale, I was left to ponder what it meant to me. The meaning was clear.
I thought about the many clients I had worked with through the years who struggled through life trying to fit in. Who felt they were surrounded by people who were prettier, wealthier, or somehow better. How they had tried to be someone they were not in order to be accepted. To blend in with the crowd. To be one of them.
I looked at that Prada store, standing proud amidst a background in which it was completely foreign. Content and unwilling to change what it was to fit in. Accepting of the strange looks from passers-by. Committed to being itself for as long as it was standing. And beautiful.
That Prada store represented self-acceptance in its purest form.
Self-acceptance is the key to a happy and fulfilling life. I want to help you find yourself. Let’s begin our journey.
PS… the shoes were amazing 😀
