Everyone feels anxious sometimes. This is normal. Mild anxiety may even help a person become more alert and focused on the task at hand. Extreme fear and worry that does not subside, however, may be symptoms of an anxiety disorder.
For some , anxiety can be so intense and frequent that it begins to interfere with daily functioning. Medications can be helpful and are often used to treat anxiety with quick results, but they do not address the root cause. Most experts agree that for long-term improvement, medications should be combined with psychotherapy.
There is a source of your anxiety. Your body is trying to tell you that something is not right. It is common for people not to be able to identify why they are anxious. Anxiety can interfere with relationships, sleep, eating habits, work, overall functioning and routine activities. It is one of the most common reasons people seek therapy. Therapy can significantly reduce or eliminate symptoms associated with anxiety, reduce or eliminate the source of the anxiety and allow you to regain a sense of control.
